Matthew Organisak held off Nick Maccario to win the 112th Massachusetts Amateur on Friday afternoon at the Kittansett Club.
“It’s truly special to be able to say that my name will be on this trophy pretty soon. Something that I feel even better about and even more proud and happy about is that the Nashawtuc Country’s Club’s name will be on this trophy. Every member over there has always been so supportive and they have been all week you know I got a bunch of texts yesterday, telling me good luck tomorrow,” said Organisak, a 22-year-old recent graduate of Emory University.
Organisak joins a list of champions that includes Francis Ouimet, Fred Wright and Frank Vana Jr.
In the 36 hole match, Organisak was four up through 28 holes, taking that lead on the back nine of the second 18.
Maccario then cut the deficit to one down heading to the 18th hole.
On 18, Maccario could make no better than a six and conceded Organisak’s short put for a five to give him the championship.
