O’Leary Advances to RI Amateur Final, Looking to Repeat
Andrew O’Leary is going back to the Rhode Island Amateur championship match.
O’Leary, the defending champion, beat former RI Amateur Champ 3&2 on Friday morning at Pawtucket Country Club to earn a spot in Saturday’s 36-hole final.
He will face either Bobby Leopold of Jamie Lukowicz in the final.
That match is still going on.
O’Leary Gets Back to Final
After grinding out his quarterfinal match against Mike Hamilton on Thursday afternoon, O’Leary found himself down one to Silva after the first hole.
However, the Notre Dame star quickly recovered, winning the second and fifth holes to take a one up lead, which he would maintain throughout the front nine.
Still one up after a halve on ten, O’Leary won the 11th and 12th holes to take a commanding three up lead.
Silva would get it back to two up with a win on 14, but that is as close as he would get.
After a halve on 15, O’Leary ended the match on the 16th hole to win 3&2.
