Thomas Blows 3 Shot Lead, Morikawa Wins Workday Charity Open in Playoff
Justin Thomas blew a three shot lead with three holes to play and then lost to Collin Morikawa in a playoff on Sunday afternoon at the Workday Charity Open at Muirfield Village in Ohio.
“It’s completely unacceptable to give up a three-shot lead. I’m disappointed in myself,” said Thomas after the round.
The win was the second of Morikawa’s PGA Tour career in 24 starts.
“Muirfield Village milkshakes never tasted so good. Exciting week, tough battle, cut couldn’t be happier to get this win,” said Morikawa after the win.
Thomas Blows Lead, Morikawa Wins
Thomas made an eagle on the 15th hole to take a three shot lead with three holes to play over Morkawa.
However, from there it was all down hill for Thomas.
He made a bogey at 16, while Morikawa poured in a birdie at 17, while Thomas then proceeded to bogey 18 to send the tournament into a playoff.
On the first playoff hole, Thomas dropped a 50-foot birdie putt, however, Morikawa made birdie on top of him to extend the playoff.
After the two parred 18, the playoff went to the tenth hole where Thomas put his tee shot in the trees and was blocked out.
Morikawa ended up making par on the hole, while the best Thomas could do was a bogey, giving Morikawa the win.
