Alpine’s Santamaria to Face Defending Champ Papa in Girls Jr. Am Final
Alpine Country Club’s own Ava Santamaria will face defending champion Gianna Papa in the Girls Jr. Amateur Championship semi-final on Thursday afternoon at Alpine Country Club.
The match is set to go off a little after 1 p.m.
Santamaria Beats Vinny Papa
Santamaria got to the final by beating Gianna Papa’s sister Vincenza “Vinny” Papa in the semi finals.
Playing on her home course, Santamaria jumped out to a four-up lead after the first four holes.
Papa then won the 5th and 7th holes to get it back to two-up at the turn.
Sanatmaria held three-up leads on two different occasions on the back nine, before Papa won 13, lost 14, and then won 15 and 16 to get the lead down to just one-up.
Santamaria halved 17 and won 18 to escape with the win.
Papa Beats Porter
With the match tied after nine holes, the defending champion won 10 and 11 to take a two up lead, before Porter won 12 to cut it in half.
Papa kept the pressure on by winning 13, but again Porter responded with a win on 15.
The match came to a close when Papa won 16 and 17 to seal the 3&1 win.
