Dustin Johnson held on to win the Travelers Championship by one shot over Kevin Streelman on Sunday evening at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
Johnson fired a final round 67 to finish the tournament at 19-under, while Streelman finished 18-under, also shooting a final round 67.
The tournament saw seven players withdraw due to the coronavirus, including major champions Brooks Koepka, Greame McDowell and Webb Simpson, as well as, Cameron Champ, Chase Koepka, Bud Cauley and Denny McCarthy.
Despite the withdrawals, the tournament was still close throughout, with the lead changing hands on multiple occasions throughout the four days.
For Johnson, it is his first win in 16 months, and the 21st of his career.
It is also the 13th straight season in which he has gotten at least one win.
Johnson opened the final round in the last group, but two shots back of leader Brendon Todd.
However, he managed to erase Todd’s lead by the fifth hole, and then took a two shot lead after birdies on eight, nine and ten, following a bogey on seven.
Todd, who had parred every hole, was unable to get a birdie putt to drop the entire round and then made a triple bogey on the 12th hole. That pretty much ended his day.
It also gave Johnson a five shot lead over Todd, and a three shot lead over his next closest opponentent, Streelman.
However, things got interesting quickly.
Johnson put his tee shot on 13 out of bounds, but managed to save bogey, while Streelman made birdie.
On the par-4 15th, Johnson’s tee shot avoided the water by a foot, somehow staying up.
Johnson managed to ave par on the hole.
After about an hour rain delay, Johnson made bogey on 16, but Streelman missed a birdie putt on 17, and a poor tee shot on 18 ended his day.
Johnson parred the final two holes to end the tournament,
