New England PGA to Open Tournament Season on June 8 at Newport National

After an almost two month delay due to the coronavirus, the New England PGA announced that it will begin the 2020 tournament season with an NPGA Stroke Play Series event at Newport National Golf Club.

“The tournament is the first of four June events for the Section. All four are Professional-only tournaments, with the first three being hosted in Rhode Island. Current Rhode Island COVID-19 guidelines provide best opportunity for Section tournaments among the five states within the Section boundaries,” writes the NEPGA. 

A second NEPGA Stroke Play Series event will be held June 15 at Kirkbrae Country Club. 

The NEPGA Senior-Junior Championship will be contested June 22 at Wanumetonomy Golf & Country Club and the NEPGA Acushnet Pro-Assistant will be June 29 at The Bay Club at Mattapoisett.

NEPGA Pro-Am events are scheduled to return in July, with four Pro-Ams. 

The NEPGA Pro-Officer is slated for July 9 at Wollaston GC, with the Pro-Am Championship returning to Pinehills on July 13. 

The Pro-Senior is heading to Bass Rocks on July 15 and the NEPGA Pro-Lady will be July 23 at Kernwood CC.

Policies & Procedures

NEPGA tournaments will be played under Section Tournament COVID-19 Policies and Procedures until further notice. 

“The health and safety of NEPGA Professionals, their fellow competitors, amateur partners, facility staff and NEPGA Tournament staff remains the Section’s top priority. The NEPGA will continue to monitor state regulations as they pertain to golf, social distancing, and group gatherings, and make any necessary adjustments to the Tournament Policies and Procedures or the Tournament Schedule,” writes the NEPGA. 

Self-screening, social distancing, practice area restrictions, scoring area procedures, and more are addressed in the procedures and players are expected to be familiar with the guidelines prior to registering for an event.
