Mondays With Mike Bradshaw: Memorial Day
Memorial Day. The “unofficial” start to Summer here in New England that’s normally full of cookouts, baseball games and the Indianapolis 500.
Things are obviously a little bit different this year, but hopefully the intent is still the same–to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and died while serving in the American Armed Forces.
Last year we were fortunate to host a PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) program at Kirkbrae and it was an awesome experience for everyone involved.
The veterans were so appreciative of the attention and help that they got as they were able to spend a bit of time learning and playing a game that they (and we all) love.
It truly is amazing to see their gratitude and hear their stories. For most, playing golf is just small part of the recuperation from the stresses of their service time.
Sometimes it makes you realize that while we all read and watch about “heroes” on a daily basis, the real hero could be the person who lives next door or you run into at the market. So, if during your travels today you happen run into a veteran, please shake his/her hand and thank him/her for their service.
And for those of our readers who served our country, please accept my thanks and the thanks of our entire staff and membership for your service to our country…
