Welcome to GolfNewsRI
“Hello World” – Tiger Woods
Welcome to GolfNewsRI, Rhode Island’s home for local golf coverage.
My name is Joe Calabro and I am the editor and co-founder of the website along with Rich Cappalli.
Prior to creating GolfNewsRI, I was a sportswriter at a local digital media company where I talked to athletes such as former PC basketball star Kris Dunn, Wes Welker, Julian Edelman and more.
Rich is an avid golfer and fan of the game.
The idea for the site actually started with Rich talking about needing an app for golf course reviews.
I then took the idea and ran with it, and here we are.
“When I came up with this idea, I was looking to book a tee time somewhere where I don’t usually play. I thought that a website with information that an everyday golfer would need/like to know would be beneficial. My hope is that we bring you up-to-date news from courses across the state, as well as, some interesting articles/interviews from local golf pros,” said Cappalli.
We both love the game of golf and are hoping by launching this website, we can not only give news, but grow the game and bring the Rhode Island golf community together.
What is GolfNewsRI
GolfNewsRI is a website covering local golf in Rhode Island.
From club championships to the Northeast Amateur and more.
The website will also feature golf course reviews and contributions from local PGA professionals
Pros that are already on board include King’s Crossing Head Golf Professional Peter Walsh, Rick Holcomb, Kirkbrae’s Mike Bradshaw and others.
“I’m excited to contribute to the all new website, GolfNewsRI. There will be lots of great and interesting content,” said Holcomb.
Local pros will contribute lessons, tips, or just thoughts on the game or perhaps on an event on a weekly basis.
Walsh added, “I’m very excite to be one of the first contributors to
RI‘s newest golf resource. Im Excited for the partnership and wishing the founders much success.”
We will cover pro golf, such as the PGA and LPGA Tour, as well as, the Senior Tour where Rhode Islanders Brett Quigley and Billy Andrade still compete.
But, the focus really will be on local golf, club championships, state amateurs and everything in between.
I hope that everyone enjoys the website.
We will certainly do our best to bring you the golf news that you need and want to know on a consistent basis.
Thanks to everyone for the support.
