Dawson Jones Monday Qualifies for KFT’s LECOM Suncoast Classic
Former URI star Dawson Jones Monday qualified for the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic this week.
Jones fired a six-under 66 at Tara Golf & Country Club to get into a four-for-one playoff where he advanced.
The one-hole playoff took place early Tuesday morning.
Other qualifiers from the site include Alex Price, Michael Visacki and Ricardo Celia.
Will Dickson, Chris Francoeur and Bryson Richards did not make the cut.
Jones gets his Korn Ferry Tour week going at 3 p.m. on Thursday alongside Raj Ghosh and Noah Kumar.
Jones’ Monday Q Round
Starting on the first hole, Jones birdied the second, but gave it right back with a bogey on the third.
He was even par though the first five holes.
But then, the run started.
Jones birdied the par-3 sixth hole, then rattled off birdies on eight, nine, made eagle on the par-5 10th and dropped in another birdie on the 11th.
That got him to six-under on the round.
Jones added a birdie on 14 to get to seven-under on the round, but a bogey on 16 dropped him back into a playoff.
He parred 17 and 18 to stay in that playoff.
