La Salle’s Charlie Melvin Commits to Penn State Wilkes-Barre

La Salle senior Charlie Melvin has committed to play golf at Penn State Wilkes-Barre starting in the fall of 2024, he announced on social media. 

“I’m looking forward to attending Penn State in the fall and playing golf for Coach Keil & The Lions,” writes Melvin on social media. 

According to his dad, Jim Melvin Jr., Charlie will be on the 2plus2 plan, meaning he will go to Penn State WB for two years and play Division II golf, before transferring to the main campus for the final two years.

Melvin is getting ready to begin his final high school season at La Salle where he will serve as a co-captain with Max Jackson. 

The Rams are seeking a three-peat of the High School State Championship. 

The Rams begin practice on Monday and the season starts in early April. 

About Melvin 

Back in August, Melvin finished in seventh at the Myrtle Beach World Amateur. 

Melvin qualified for flight two of the tournament which is for players ranging from a 0.4-1.6 handicap index. 

Just a few days later, he beat Jon Cooper to win the Glocester Club Championship.
