More importantly, he is one shot off the lead of former Oklahoma star Logan McAllister.

The former Rhode Island Amateur champ currently sits outside of the Korn Ferry Tour reshuffle line and needs a big tournament.

Short of actually leading the tournament, this is as good a start as one could have asked for.

Chatfield’s First Round

Starting on the back nine, Chatfield opened the round on fire, making five straight birdies to quickly climb the leaderboard.

He parred out the opening nine with a 30.

On the back side, Chatfield picked up right where he left off with a birdie on the first hole (his 10th).

His only blemish on the card came on the second hole when he made a double-bogey six to drop back to four under for the tournament.

However, he rebounded in a big way.

After saving par on the third hole, Chatfield birdied the fourth, fifth and sixth holes to get to seven under and one shot off the lead with three holes to go.

Chatfield had birdie opportunities coming in, but saved par to card a first round 64.
