RI Women’s Amateur Final Set – MacLeod vs Eaton
The Rhode Island Women’s Amateur final is set.
Merrimack College commit Morgan MacLeod will face Moses Brown star Kylie Eaton for the trophy on Friday morning at Wanumetonomy.
The 18-hole match will begin at 7 a.m.
The former St. Mary’s – Bay View star won medalist honors during Monday’s stroke play portion of the tournament.
She got the number one overall seed and a first round bye.
In her first match, the quarterfinal, she edged Lily Dessel one-up to advance to the semifinals.
The match was tied through 15 holes before MacLeod made a par on the 17th hole to go one up.
In the semifinals on Thursday morning, MacLeod was one-down through three to Fairfield star Addy Douglas, however, she quickly turned the table.
MacLeod took a three up lead through ten and ever looked back.
Now she will look to take a State Amateur title with her to Merrimack.
The three-time Kirkbrae club champion entered the match play portion of the tournament as the number two overall seed.
She also had a first round bye.
In the quarterfinal match, Eaton played her sister Adriana for the third time in a state tournament, and this one was the closes match so far.
Kylie won the match one up after draining a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.
It will be interesting to see what happens if these two meet again in the Kirkbrae Club Championship tournament and or the RI Junior Am.
In the semi finals, Eaton faced her high school “rival” Olivia Williams.
Eaton beat Wiliams to win the Junior Am last year, and this year Williams won the High School Girls State Championship while playing in the same group as Eaton.
Kylie went three up through the first six holes, and four up through the first 12 to win pretty handily.
