Cam Smith Wins 150th Open Championship
Cam Smith is the Champion Golfer of the Year.
Smith made five straight birdies on the back nine on Sunday at St. Andrews to out-duel Rory McIlroy and win his first major championship of his career.
Smith finished the tournament at 20-under par to claim the Claret Jug by one shot over Cameron Young,
Young eagled the 18th hole to pull within one shot, but Smith had a tap in birdie to give him the one shot lead back.
For McIlroy, he remains major-less since 2014.
McIlroy, clearly the crowd favorite, had at least a two shot lead for most of the front nine.
However, he could not get a birdie putt to drop on the backside when he needed it most
