BREAKING: MA’s Thorbjornsen to Skip Northeast Amateur

Massachusetts native Michael Thorbjornsen revealed that he will be skipping next week’s Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett.

The Wellesley native and Stanford superstar will be playing the Travelers Championship in Connecticut instead.

“I was going to play in the Sunnehanna. I think it will start in a couple of days, and then just recently got into the Travelers, which was great news. So we’ll no longer be playing in the Northeast Am,” Thorbjornsen said during his U.S. Open press conference on Monday afternoon.

He added, “I’m just extremely grateful for these two opportunities to play against the best players in the world, and just really looking forward to start on Thursday.”

Thorbjornsen will tee off in the U.S. Open at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday morning,

Northeast Am Field Still Strong

While Thorbjornsen withdrawing is a blow to the tournament, the field is still strong.

Locals Davis Chatfield, Patrick Welch, Chris Francoeur and Bobby Leopold are all playing plus many other of the the top amateurs in the world.
