Welch in 69th, Oklahoma 2nd After Day 1 of Thunderbird Collegiate
Patrick Welch in a tie for 69th after day one of the Thunderbird Collegiate at Papago Golf Course in Arizona.
Welch posted a 73 in the first 18 and 76 in the second 18 to fall into a tie with multiple other players.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Sooners are in second place, two shots behind first place Arizona State and one shot ahead of rival Oklahoma State.
Welch’s Day
After a 73 in the first 18, Welch’s second 18 was a bit of a rollercoaster.
After birding the 2nd and ninth holes to post two-under on the front nine, Welch’s day got a bit crazy on the second nine.
The former Classical star bogeyed the 11th hole, made an eight on the par-4 12th hole, birdied the 13th hole, bogeyed the 14th hole and took a seven on the par-5 15th hole to shoot 42 on the back and 76 overall.
