Welch Finishes 11th at Calusa Cup, Oklahoma 4th

Rhode Island’s Patrick Welch finished in a tie for 11th this week at the Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club in Florida. 

Welch posted a three-round score of 218 (2-over) to finished tied with Georgia Tech’s Ben Smith. 

He was the highest finisher on an Oklahoma squad that took fourth place in the tournament.

“We just weren’t very sharp all week. Calusa Pines does a great job of exposing parts of your game that isn’t sharp, so it was honestly a great assessment for us this week. We have a lot to come back to Norman and get to work on,” said head coach Ryan Hybl after the tournament. 

Georgia Tech won the tournament at eight-under par.

Welch’s Final Round

Starting on the first hole, Welch birdied the fourth hole, bogeyed the sixth and then birdied the seventh to turn at 35. 

On the back side, Welch dropped another birdie putt on the 10th hole, before things took a turn. 

The former Classical star bogeyed the 11th hole, doubled the 12th hole and bogeyed the 13th hole to drop to two-over for the tournament before parring out to post 74.
