“I know he was following and watching and to get it done, it was awesome,” Swafford said in an emotional post round press conference.

Swafford  finished the tournament at 23-under, two shots better than Tom Hoge and three shots better than Brian Harman.

The win was Swafford’s third career win and second American Express title.

Back 9 Blitz

Trailing for most of the day, Swafford went on a back nine blitz on Sunday.

He eagled the par-5 16th hole, and then dropped a birdie on the par-3 17th to take control of the tournament.

Swafford shot 31 on the back nine.
