Augie Sottile Shoots 67 at Newport Country Club Leads Burke Memorial
Amateur Golf Tour New England’s Augie Sottile leads after round one of the Burke Memorial Championship at Newport Country Club.
Sottile posted a five-under par 67 in the first round and holds a three shot lead over Kevin Blaser and Derek Audette.
Mike Hamilton is four shots behind.
They were the only four players under par for the day.
Due to previous weather issues, the second half of the field will tee off at Newport on Thursday.
The second rounds of the tournament will take place at Pawtucket Country Club next week.
Sottile’s Round
Sottile opened the day with a birdie on the first hole, before seven straight pars got him to the ninth at one-under.
Sottile birdied the ninth to turn at two-under, then ripped off birdies at 10, 11 and 12 to get to five under.
He would par out the rest of he way to fire a 67.
