Rhode Island Loses Tri-State Matches – Again

Rhode Island lost the Tri-State Matches for the 20th straight year on Wednesday afternoon at Cape Cod National in Massachusetts. 

Despite entering the day with a three point lead, Rhode Island watched Massachusetts sprint by them and take home the trophy in singles matches. 

Mass finished with 111 points, while RI finished with 91 1/2

“It’s really special for the organization. Great group of players this year, and just shows how deep of a group we have here. And the way that these guys play and whether they’re representing themselves or representing the state as a team,” said Mass Golf Exec. Director Jesse Menachem after the round. 

This is Mass Golf’s 16th win in 17 seasons. 

Next year’s Tri-State Matches will be held in Rhode Island. Though, a course has not yet been announced. 

Struggling in Singles 

As it usually does, it came down to Wednesday’s singles session. 

As the points below show, RI lost the singles session to Massachusetts by a whopping 23 points.

They lost to Connecticut by ten points.

The highest scoring player in the singles session for Rhode Island was 2020 RI Amateur Champ Jamie Lukowicz with six points. 

No other player on the team had more than five points, and three players ended up with 0 points. 

Randy Millen was the Rhode Islander to get five points.
