Notre Dame in 2nd After Day 1 of Fighting Irish Classic

Davis Chatfield posted back-to-back rounds in the 60s to help Notre Dame end day one of the Fighting Irish Classic in second place. 

In the first 18 holes, Chatfield fired a 69 and in the second 18 holes Chatfield posted a 67.

Notre Dame fired a team score of 554 through 36 holes and trails Washington by seven shots with 18 holes left. 

Chatfield is currently in seventh place, while Andrew O’Leary is in 31st.

Chatfield’s First 18 

The 2016 RI Amateur Champ opened the tournament with birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, parring the others to turn at two-under. 

On the back side, Chatfield bogeyed the 10th and 15th holes, before closing with a birdie on 17 to post 69. 

Chatfield’s 2nd Round 

In his second 18 holes, Chatfield opened with birdies on the first and third holes to get to two-under right off the jump. 

After stringing a few pars together, Chatfield dropped a birdie on the ninth hole to turn at three-under. 

On the backside, he made his lone bogey on 17, before getting it right back with a birdie on 18. 

O’Leary’s Day

In the first round, O’Leary got off to a hot start, birding three of the nine holes to make the turn at three-under. 

However, the back nine was a different story. 

O’Leary bogeyed five of the first six holes before closing with pars to post two-over 72. 

In the second round, O’Leary again opened with two birdies on the third and fifth holes, before making bogeys on six and eight to turn at even par. 

On the back side, O’Leary bogeyed 12 and 14, before birding the 16th hole to post 71.
