URI Tied for 8th After Day 1 of VCU Invitational
The University of Rhode Island men’s golf team is in a tie for eighth place after day one of the VCU Invitational at CCV Tuckahoe Creek Course in Virginia.
The Rams posted a 36-hole score fo 574 (2-under) to tie with Maryland.
At one point, Rhody was in second place in the tournament, however, a double-bogey by Bryson Richards, a triple-bogey by Andrew DiPetrillo and another double by Nate Ingram sent them reeling down the stretch.
Richmond leads the tournament at 18-under par followed by VCU at 11-under par.
The final 18 holes will be played on Wednesday.
The Rams were led by Brandon Gillis and Jordan Brajcich, who both fired even par 72s.
Vermont Amateur champion Bryson Richards and Nate Ingram followed up with a pair of 73s, while Andrew DiPetrillo added a 74 to round out the scoring.
