Tony Finau Wins Northern Trust Tournament

For the first time in 1,975 days, Tony Finau has finally gotten to the winners circle. 

Finau won the Northern Trust Tournament in a playoff after Cam Smith put his tee shot out of bounds. 

Finau posted a 65 in the final round of the Northern Trust to come from behind and get the victory in a playoff.

He now moves to the top of the FedEx Cup Standings with two tournaments to go.

The next tournament, the BMW Championship begins on Thursday.

It is a very quick turnaround for the PGA Tour due to Hurricane Henri forcing play at the Northern Trust to be postponed on Sunday.

There were also several hours of delays on Monday morning causing play to finish a little after 7 p.m.

Finau’s Struggles to Close 

Finau has taken a share of the lead into the final round at least four times over the course of his career since 2016, and has failed to win. 

In June of 2020, Finau fired his caddy . 

This is his first win in five years and 143 starts.

In the 142 starts in between victories, Finau recorded eight runner-up finishes and 39 top-10s.
