Top Seeds Advance as Elite 8 Set at RI Women’s Amateur

The elite eight is all set at the Rhode Island women’s amateur after all the top seeds advanced Tuesday morning at Wanumetonomy. 

The day was highlighted by Vinny and Gianna Papa advancing, and Kylie Eaton beating her sister Adrianna.

Bracket Breakdown

Top seeded Vinny Papa cruised past Marilyn Weigner 6&5 and will now face Emily Brooks. 

Brooks, a Wanumetonomy member, beat Melissa Hem handily to make it to the elite eight. 

Kirkbrae’s Kylie Eaton beat her sister Adrianna 7&6, and now faces Lauren Dohoney of Alpine in the next round. 

Dohoney beat Agawam’s Melissa Brown in the round of 16. 

On the other side of the bracket, Newport’s Addy Douglas took care of business against Jackie Brown 6&5 to advance. 

The number two seed in the tournament will now face Val Blinn. 

The bottom of the bracket is highlighted by Gianna Papa’s 6&5 win over Brenda Sabbag, a Wanumetonomy member. 

Papa will now face Meredith Norton in the elite eight.

Norton beat Lilly Dessel one up to advance.
