2-Time Major Champ Cabrera Arrested in Brazil, to be Extradited to Argentina
Two-time Major Champion Angel Cabrera was arrested in Brazil on Thursday for extradition to his homeland, Argentina, to face charges for multiple crimes allegedly committed from 2016 to 2020.
According to the Associated Press, Cabrera was on Interpol’s red code list.
According to a police statement, officials in Argentina are charging Cabrera with assault, theft, illegal intimidation and repeated disrespect to authorities.
Earlier this month, Cabrera’s ex wife, Silva Rivadero, filed two charges against him. Another former partner, Cecila Torres, claimed Cabrera punched her, threatened her and attempted to run her over with his car back in 2016.
The AP reports that the arrest was made in an upper class area of Rio de Janeiro and later confirmed it was Cabrera.
Cabrera won The Masters and the U.S. Open in his career.
He did not play in this past November’s Masters Tournament due to wrist surgery.
