Welch Faces Texas Star Cole Hammer in Match Play Tuesday
Top-ranked Oklahoma is set to battle the University of Texas in the semi-finals of the East Lake Cup on Tuesday afternoon.
With that, Providence native Patrick Welch will face Texas star Cole Hammer at 1:15 p.m.
“When we played Texas at the Big 12 Match Play Championship it was different because there were six matches then, as opposed to the normal five. But at the end of the day, there isn’t that much of a difference because our guys know that if we go play good golf that we’re going to have a chance to win, and if we don’t then we’re going to get beat because Texas is really good. They’re one of the best teams in the country, and our guys know that,” said Oklahoma coach Ryan Hybl.

Welch vs Hammer
Welch is red-hot coming into the match after winning the Individual Title on Monday afternoon, beating his teammate Quade Cummins by two shots.
During Monday’s round, Welch, cross-handed grip and all, made four birdies on the back nine, including one on 18 to win the tournament.
“I started hot with those three birdies, and then hit a little rough patch later on. I knew that I would need a few more birdies if I wanted to have a chance, and fortunately I found them down the stretch,” said Welch.
Meanwhile, Hammer struggled on Monday.
He finished three-over for the tournament and in a tie for 19th.
However, don’t count him out.
Hammer is formerly the number one ranked amateur in the world and has already played three Pro events, including the U.S. Open.
He is likely to turn pro over the next year.
