Laird Earns First Win Since 2013

Martin Laird beat Matthew Wolff and Austin Cook in a playoff to win the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on Sunday evening in Las Vegas.

It is Laird’s first win since 2013.

“I’ve been working hard, and it’s been seven years since my last win. Probably feel like now my game is as good as it has been. I’ve been playing really good the last few weeks but just hadn’t seen the results. But I love it here,” said Laird after the round.

Laird now joins Jim Furyk and Kevin Na as the only players to win multiple times at TPC Summerlin.

Laird Wins

Laird, 37, opened the final round with a share of the lead before building the lead to three shots after chipping in from a plugged lie in the bunker on the par-5 ninth hole.

However, he scrambled for par on the 17th hole  to stay ahead by one shot and then bogeyed 18. A par would have won the tournament in regulation.

That set up a three way playoff between Laird, Wolff and Cook.

On the second extra hole, Laird drained a long birdie putt to win it.

It is his fourth career victory.
