Wannamoisett’s Forcier Leads After Round 1 of RI Mid-Am
Wannamoisett’s Bill Forcier posted the only under-par round of the day at the Rhode Island Mid-Amateur Championship at Warwick Country Club and leads by one shot over Bobby Leopold and Kevin Blaser.
Forcier shot a one-under par 68 to take a one shot lead into Wednesday’s final round over Leopold and Blaser, who both finished the day at even par.
If Forcier wins, he will be the fourth player to win at least two Mid-Ams, as he won in 2018.
Other players in contention going into Wednesday include Quinnatisset’s David Marshall, Winnapaug’s Austin Cilley and defending RI Amateur Champion Jamie Lukowicz, all who sit at one-over.
Kirkbrae’s John Auclair, Crestwood’s Jordan Amorin, Meadow Brook’s Steve Chevalier, and Wannamoisett’s Ben Tuthill are all two-over for the tournament.
Forcier opened the round with a birdie on two, but then gave it back on four.
He would par in the rest of the way to finish the front nine even.
On the back nine, Forcier bogeyed the 12th hole, but then birdied 13 and 15 to get to his one-under par total.
