This comes after Mickelson, 50, missed the cut at The Northern Trust and is out of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

“I feel like coming into this event I’ve been playing really well at home. I was excited to play. And I feel like I’ve been playing decent. So I want to play. I really want to play golf. So that’ll give me a chance to play three competitive rounds,” said Mickelson after his round.

The Champions Tournament runs from Monday to Wednesday in Ridgedale, Missouri.

Rough Year

It has been a rough year on tour for Mickelson, relatively speaking, of course.

He finishes the season with a second and third place finish, but also missed seven cuts and was not anywhere near contention at the PGA Championship.

The next time we will see Mickelson on the big stage will be the U.S. Open at Winged Foot.

A tournament that he has six runner up finishes in, but no wins.
