Welch Eliminated from U.S. Amateur

Providence native Patrick Welch’s run in the U.S. Amateur has come to an end.

Welch was eliminated on Wednesday after losing 4&3 to Andrew Kozan in the round of 64 at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.

The Match

Kozan dominated the match from start to finish, jumping out to a six up lead after seven holes.

He would lead as much as seven up after ten holes, with Welch winning just one of those first ten holes.

Welch would rally in the final holes, winning 11, 13 and 14 to cut his deficit to just four down with four to play.

However, the two would halve the 15th hole, ending the match.
