Welch, Chatfield Make Cut at U.S. Amateur
Patrick Welch and Davis Chatfield have made the cut at the U.S. Amateur and will advance to match play starting on Wednesday.
Chatfield finished in a tie for 48th, while Welch finished in a tie for 36th to make the cut comfortably at Banden Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon.
Match play begins on Wednesday, August 12 with Golf Channel picking up coverage around 7 p.m.
Welch’s 2nd Round
After posting a one-under round on Monday, Welch entered the second round likely needing something around even par or lower to make the cut.
After bogeying the first hole, Welch birdied the third and seventh holes to get to one-under on the day.
On the back nine, Welch would bogey the 14th and 15th holes to finish the day at one over and well inside the cut line.
Following Monday’s three-over round, Chatfield was outside the cut line and needed to shoot something low on Tuesday to have a chance.
Well, he did.
Chatfield opened the round with a birdie on the third hole, and then another birdie on nine to get to two under on the day.
His loan bogey of the round came on the 13th hole, but he would recover with a birdie on 16 to shoot a two-under par 69 in round two.
