Florio Pulls the Upset

After being one down through ten holes, Papa won three straight holes to take a two up lead through 13.

The lead was still intact through 14 holes before Florio would win 15 to cut her deficit to one down.

After halving the 16th hole, Florio tied the match on the 17th hole with a birdie.

Florio would then birdie 18 to pull the upset and win the Women’s Amateur.

Vrees Rolls to Women’s Net Amateur

In the Women’s Net Amateur Championship, Kirkbrae’s Jordan Vrees took on Aquidneck Club’s Eileen Faxon.

Vrees, who was playing to a 0 handicap, had to Faxon eight shots in the match, but it was not an issue.

Vrees won the first six holes of the match and seven of the first eight to go 7 up.

Faxon would win the ninth hole and then later the 12th hole to cut Vrees’ lead to five up, but she would not get any closer.

Vrees would cruise to the net championship 4&3.
