O’Leary Escapes, RI Amateur Semifinals Set

The defending champion is still alive. 

Andrew O’Leary escaped with a win against Mike Hamilton in 20 holes on Thursday afternoon to advance to the RI Amateur semifinals on Friday morning.

O’Leary was two down the 11th hole, before winning 12 and 13 to tie the match. 

He then won 17 to take his first lead of the match at one up. 

Hamilton bounced back with a win on the 18th hole to send it to a playoff. 

The pair halved the first playoff hole, before O’Leary won it on the second playoff hole. 

O’Leary will face Kevin Silva in the semi finals tomorrow, while Bobby Leopold will face Jamie Lukowicz.

Silva Edges Ciolino 

After being down early in the match, Silva took a three up lead on the 11th hole after dropping in a birdie putt. 

He would then halve the next four holes before Ciolino would cut the lead to one on 16.

However, Ciolino was not able to get another hole as Silva would hang on for the win. 

Leopold Cruises Past Dessel 

Moses Brown star Harry Dessel jumped out to an early two up lead after the first two holes, and remained two up after five. 

From there, Leopold took over. 

The former RI Amateur champion tied the match on the eighth hole and would take his first lead of the match on 11. 

After the two halved 12 and 13, Leopold would win 14, 15, and 16 to take the match. 

Lukowicz Edges McCormick

Lukowicz jumped out to a two up lead after the first two holes to take control of the match. 

McCormick would cut the lead to one on the fifth hole, but that would be McCormick’s only win of the match. 

The pair would halve ten straight holes before Lukowicz wold win 16 and halve 17 to end the match.
