BREAKING: 89th RI Open Canceled Due to COVID-19
The Rhode Island Golf Association (RIGA) announce that it has canceled the 89th Rhode Island Open, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the travel restrictions that go along with it.
“The Rhode Island Open has been a staple of the RIGA and Rhode Island Golf for a long time. It’s tough for us to have to cancel one of our history’s most storied events. But in these unprecedented times we have to protect all parties involved. We look forward to continuing the tradition of this great event in 2021,” said Bob Ward, Executive Director of RIGA in a statement.
This year’s tournament was set to take place on August 11 and 12 at Valley Country Club.
According to RIGA, this is the first time since 1945 that the Rhode Island Open will not take place.
World War II canceled the RI Open from 1943-1945.
