Boys Jr. Amateur Semi-Finals are Set

The semi-finals of the Boys Junior Amateur Championship are set. 

Top-seeded Spencer Dumas will battle fourth-seeded Harry Dessel on one side of the bracket, while 15th-seeeded Ben Sapovits will take on sixth-seeded John Baldwin on the other side of the bracket.

The semi-finals will take place on Thursday morning, July 9, while the finals will take place on Thursday afternoon. 

A Match-by-Match Breakdown is Below:

Spencer Dumas vs Shayne Bigelow 

Bigelow got off to a good start against the top-seeded Dumas, taking a one up lead on the second hole of the match. 

However, from there, Dumas took over. 

Dumas won the next three holes to take a two up lead, and then went three up on the seventh hole. 

After the pair halved the 8th and 9th holes, Dumas went four up on 10 after Bigelow made a six. 

Dumas went on to win the match 4&2. 

He will face Harry Dessel in the semi-finals. 

Harry Dessel vs Jack McMullen 

After Dessel got off to an early two-up lead in the first three holes, he was just one up going into the back nine after McMullen won the event hole to cut into the lead. 

On the back nine, Dessel won the tenth hole with a five and then went 4-3-4 to win 11, 12, 13 and take a five up lead. 

The pair halved the 14th hole to end the match and five Dessel the 5&4 victory. 

Ben Sapovits vs Ethan Mossey 

After pulling off the upset of the day in round one, 15th-seeded
Ben Sapovits continued to roll in the quarterfinals, beating Ethan Mossey 6&5. 

Sapovits won four of the first six holes to take a commanding four-up lead, before Mossey got one back on seven. 

On the back side, Sapovits put it away quickly, taking a four-up lead on 10, a five-up lead on 12 and then a six-up lead on 13 to close out the match. 

He will face John Baldwin in the semi-finals. 

Gary Taraian vs John Baldwin 

This was the closes match of the day in the boys division. 

After both Taraian and Baldwin traded holes in the opening nine, the match was all-square through 11 with both players making four. 

From that point, Baldwin snagged wins on 12 and 13 to go two up, and then won 15 to go three up. 

The match ended when the players halved the 16th hole, giving Baldwin the 3&2 win.
