EPIC DUEL: Correia Beats Vrees in 19 Holes During 1st Round of Girls Jr. Amateur Championship

In the only match of the day in the Women’s Junior Amateur Championship bracket, Ledgemont’s Hanley Correia edged Kirkbrae’s Jordan Vrees in 19 holes at Alpine Country Club. 

Correia will now face top-seeded Vincenza Papa on Wednesday morning.

Epic Match 

The match saw Vrees win the first three holes to take a three-up lead, before Correia stormed back to win three of the next four holes, tying the match up on the seventh. 

Vrees retook a one-shot lead with a three on the ninth hole, before Correia came back to win 10, 11 an 12 to take a two-up lead. 

After the two halved 13, Correia made a four on 14 to take a commanding three-up lead with four holes to play. 

This time, it was Vrees who came storming back. 

Vrees made a two on 15 to win, and fives on 16 and 17 to tie the match with one hole to play. 

Vrees and Correia halved the 18th hole with fives, sending the match to extras. 

In the sudden death playoff on the first hole at Alpine, Correia made a four, while Vrees made a five, giving Correia the win.
