Valley’s Vincenza Papa Wins Medalist Honors Over Sister at Girls Jr. Amateur Championship
Valley Country Club’s Vincenza Papa took medalist honors in the Rhode Island Girls Junior Amateur Qualifying tournament held on Monday at Alpine Country Club.
Papa shot a three-over par 76 to edge her sister, Gianna Papa, by two shots.
Gianna Papa beat Vincenza in last year’s final.
Match play begins on morning at Alpine.
There are only nine girls in the field.
Papa’s Round
Papa opened the round with a birdie on the first hole, before bogeying the next five holes.
After a par on seven, Papa then bogeyed eight and parred nine to close out the first nine holes.
On the back nine, Papa birdied two of the first four holes, before bogeying 17.
She closed the round with a birdie on 18 to finish three over.
