Meadow Brook’s Chevalier Wins Final RI Amateur Qualifier

Meadow Brook’s Steve Chevalier won the third and final Rhode Island amateur qualifying event at Fenner Hill on Monday.
Chevalier fired a three-under par 69 to win by one stroke over Quinnatisset’ David Marshall and Connecticut National’s Drew Aitken.

Overall, the top 27 and ties qualified for the Rhode Island Amateur.
The cut was five-over par.
Chevalier’s Round
Chevalier got off to a fast start, birding two of the first four holes to jump out to a two-under par start.
A bogey on the fifth hole dropped him back to one-under, before he made eight consecutive pars keeping him at one under par well into the back nine.
Chevalier then took control of the tournament in the final five holes.
After dropping in a birdie putt on the par-5, 14th hole, Chevalier made another birdie on the 17th hole to get to three-under.
He closed with a par on 18 to take the clubhouse lead.
