Peter Walsh: Pace of Play

Now that golf is returning to a level of normalcy, let us not return to what has become the ‘NORM’ for lots of us golfers, SLOW PLAY.

It can be the most frustrating part of your golf day, and it only compounds things if your not playing well.

We all know the things we should do, but we should make it our responsibility to educate slow golfers in what can be done to help speed up play.

It will make each golf day that bit more enjoyable.

  1. – Be ready to play when its your turn.
  2. – Promote continuous putting when on the green.
  3. – Wave faster players through. This is not a knock on your ego to do this.

  4. As you may or may not know I learned to play golf in Ireland.
  5. The main difference between speed of rounds in Ireland and here in the US is this, in Ireland we play golf and socialize after the round in the clubhouse, in America we tend to socialize DURING the round.
  6. Golf in Ireland, for 18 holes, is about 30-45 minutes faster, and most golfers walk.

  7. My personal best piece of advice that i can give to combat slow play is this, PLAY GOLF ON THE COURSE, SOCIALIZE AFTER THE ROUND IN THE CLUBHOUSE.
