1st Obstacle in PGA Tour’s Return Cleared – Texas to Lift Stay-at-Home Order

The first obstacle in the PGA Tour’s return to action in early June appears to be cleared.

On Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that the state wide executive stay at home order will expire on April 30.

“It’s done our job, we’re ready to open Texas safely and in phases. We don’t want to reopen just to close again. Phase one begins this Friday, May 1,” said Abbott in a press conference.

As GolfNewsRI reported, the Tour is schedule to return on June 11 at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Houston, Texas.

The event is scheduled to be played without fans.

“The health and safety of all associated with the PGA TOUR and our global community continues to be our No. 1 priority, and our hope is to play a role – responsibly – in the world’s return to enjoying the things we love,” said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan.

According to the Tour, at least the first four events will be played without fans.

It has been 46 days since the opening round of the Players, after which the season was halted, and there are 45 days until the opening round of Colonial.

Texas is set to begin reopening.

Revised Schedule

The revised schedule shows that the PGA Tour will resume its season from June 11-14 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The 2019-20 season will end at the Tour Championship, which will take place over Labor Day weekend at East lake Golf Club.

Notable dates in between include the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, which will be played without fans from June 25-28.

The PGA Championship will take place from August 6 to August 9 at TPC Harding Park.

It is the only major of the 2019-20 season.

The Northern Trust will be played from August 20 to August 23 at TPC Boston.

The tour also released a revised schedule for the fall portion of the 2020-21 season.
